Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

Terms of Use

Effective Date: Jan 1 2025
Website: https://www.erikamateus.com

Owner: Dr. Erika Mateus

Welcome to ErikaMateus.com (“we,” “our,” “us,” or “the Company”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website, courses, memberships, community platforms, and other related services (collectively, the “Services”). By accessing or using our Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our Services.

1. Purpose

Erikamateus.com provides artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to support personal growth, emotional reflection, goal-setting, and skill-building. These tools are not a substitute for professional mental-health treatment, licensed therapy, or medical advice. This policy defines the scope, limitations, and responsibilities for users engaging with our AI therapeutic, counseling, and coaching features.

2. Scope of AI Services

The AI offers:

  • Guided journaling and reflection prompts
  • Mood tracking and pattern analysis
  • Goal-setting frameworks and progress check-ins
  • Cognitive-behavioral technique suggestions (e.g., reframing, mindfulness exercises)
  • Motivational coaching and habit-building strategies

The AI does NOT provide:

  • Clinical diagnosis of mental disorders
  • Crisis intervention or suicide prevention
  • Prescriptions or medical treatment plans
  • Legal, financial, or relationship-binding advice

3. User Eligibility

  • Users must be 18 years or older or have verifiable parental/guardian consent.
  • Users currently in acute psychological crisis (e.g., active suicidal ideation, severe psychosis) must immediately contact emergency services or a licensed professional.

4. Informed Consent

By using the AI features, you acknowledge:

  1. The AI is a supplement, not a replacement, for human professional care.
  2. Responses are generated by algorithms trained on general psychological principles and may contain errors or omissions.
  3. You are responsible for evaluating AI suggestions and seeking qualified human support when needed.

5. Privacy & Data Handling

  • Conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Data is anonymized for model improvement unless you opt into research (separate consent required).
  • You may delete individual sessions or your entire history at any time.
  • We comply with GDPR, CCPA, and applicable health-data regulations. No PHI is collected unless explicitly provided.

6. Crisis Protocol

If the AI detects language indicating imminent harm (self or others), it will:

  1. Display local emergency numbers (based on IP geolocation).
  2. Recommend immediate contact with a crisis hotline (e.g., 988 in the US).
  3. Suspend the session and prompt the user to confirm safety before continuing.

7. Accuracy & Limitations

  • AI responses are probabilistic and may reflect biases in training data.
  • Cultural, linguistic, or individual nuances may not be fully captured.
  • We continuously update models but cannot guarantee 100% accuracy.

8. Professional Collaboration

Licensed therapists or coaches may integrate Erikamateus AI insights into sessions only if:

  • The client provides written consent.
  • The professional independently verifies AI outputs.
  • The AI is cited as a “client-generated reflection tool,” not clinical evidence.

9. Prohibited Uses

Users may not:

  • Rely on the AI as the sole source for mental-health decisions.
  • Share AI outputs as professional credentials or diagnoses.
  • Attempt to manipulate the system to generate harmful content.

10. Liability Disclaimer

Erikamateus.com, its developers, and affiliates are not liable for outcomes resulting from AI use. You assume full responsibility for actions taken based on AI interactions.

11. Reporting Concerns

To report AI errors, harmful outputs, or policy violations: Email: transformation@erikamateus.com
